Length of service at Prior's Field (in 2020): 9 years
Are you doing what you thought you’d be doing after you left school?
Not really...I never thought I'd get married or have children and wanted to be a medic in the armed forces. However, when I chose to get married and have a family, I didn't feel that this career would balance well with family life, which is very important to me. I enjoy teaching and had tutored science since the age of 16, so this was a good second option. I now do a job I love and teach my favourite subject, whilst having a loving family.
What would you say is your biggest achievement, the thing you’re most proud of professionally or personally?
I think I'm a better person than I have ever been and I always strive to be even better. I am content with myself and life...most days! I have a hold on most day to day tasks thanks to my organisational skills and have worked very hard in raising two children who would do well in society, hopefully giving more than they take. I have three university degrees (BSc(Hons) Biomedical science, PGCE Science & AL Biology, PGDip Behavioural, Emotional and Social difficulties in Education and am a qualified SENCO, (Special educational needs coordinator), the latter two amounted to a Masters. I completed the PGCE whilst pregnant and did the second two qualifications whilst having both children!!), my parents are very proud of me, I always try to be a good sister, wife, mother and friend and this effort, I feel, is an achievement every day!
If you could have an inspirational leader to a dinner party, who would it be and why?
The first person that came to mind is the Prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, aka the cricket legend!
Do you have a favourite quote, expression or mantra which inspires you to keep going?
Yes, 'Allah never burdens a soul beyond that which it can bear'.
What advice would you give to today’s girls who may be wondering which path to take beyond school?
Never set limits on yourself and your dreams, always aim high...if you don't ask, you don't get!
